You've got the right idea, and the drawings have a nice graphic quality.
But the magic of illustration is expressing your ideas with images rather than words. You've started to do that, but then you feel you need to explain yourself by using words. Think about how to use exactly the same ideas without words.
Try a few more, and don't worry about whether the ideas "make sense." Just be spontaneous and see what happens. And keep it simple: cats/dogs; old/young; black/white; boy/girl; one/many....
It gets easier the more you do and it'll help you get comfortable generating lots of different solutions for the same problem.
I agree with the whole not needing to explain with words. I think that without using words you could take the illustrations to a whole other level. Like with the clear and clutter pages it could have been more drastic if you left the clear side completely clear and the messy side completely cluttered, you would understand the opposites without using words.
The illustrations would have more impact without the word. The subjects all seem to be isolated and could use something to connect them and unify the piece. I like your creative streak and you know exactly what it is that you want to get across.
I agree with not using words to describe the work, the viewer should be able to figure it out :). But i think your ideas are well thought out and your illustrations are nicely done. I really like the two illustrations that were just added.

ReplyDeleteOther than that I like your drawing style. :)
